How to Increase Revenue in Your Music Lesson Business

Hey there! Welcome back to my blog. Today, I want to share with you a valuable tip on how you can get your students to spend more money with you throughout the year. It's all about making sure that money ends up in your pockets and not someone else's. So, let's dive right in!

Just recently, I received my dream Christmas present from my wife - a swimming pool. It has been absolutely amazing, especially with the scorching hot weather we've been having here in New Zealand. But here's the thing, when I bought the pool, I didn't realize all the extra things I needed for it. As I was going through the purchasing process, the customer service person kept suggesting additional items that I might need. And in the heat of the moment, I ended up spending a lot more money than I initially planned.

Now, you might be wondering, how does this relate to your music lesson business? Well, it's all about the timing and opportunity to upsell. When your students sign up for lessons, they are excited and ready to invest in their music education. This is the perfect time to offer them additional products or services that they might need.

Think about it - when people are in the moment and excited to buy, they are more likely to make impulse purchases. So, instead of sending them elsewhere to buy their supplies, why not offer those products directly to them? For example, if someone signs up for drum lessons, you can suggest that they also need drumsticks, a metronome, and a practice pad. By offering these items right then and there, you increase the chances of them buying from you instead of going elsewhere.

At our music school, we partnered with other music stores to sell basic beginner products. We added those products to our website, and when a student purchased them, the store would ship them directly to the student. This way, we earned a percentage of each sale, which added up over time.

Now, I know you might feel hesitant to ask your students to buy additional things, but remember, they are already committed to investing in their music education. By offering them the right products and services, you are helping them succeed while also increasing your revenue.

Another opportunity to make extra money is through workbooks. Instead of sending your students to another shop to buy their books, consider buying a selection of them yourself and marking them up. You can even create starter packs that include the necessary books, making it easier for students to purchase everything they need from you.

Remember, these might seem like small amounts of money, but when you apply this strategy to all your students throughout the year, it can make a significant difference in your overall revenue. Every little bit adds up!
