The Number One Marketing Mistake You're Making

Hey there! Welcome to my blog. Today, I want to talk to you about marketing and the number one mistake that I see people making all the time, especially at a beginner or intermediate level. Trust me, if you fix this mistake and get it right, it can take your studio to crazy new heights. And here's the best part - most people in your area, the ones you're competing with, they also suck at marketing. So, it doesn't take much to be way better than them. This one thing will change the game and put you on a whole new level compared to everyone in your town. So, let's dive right in!

The Power of Showing the Outcome

So, what's this one thing that everyone gets wrong? Well, it's pretty simple. Let me explain it to you through a story in a totally different industry. Imagine you want to go on a nice holiday. The best holiday I went on recently was to Rarotonga, a beautiful tropical island. I saw the pictures of the beach, the sun, the swimming, and the tropical fish, and I thought, "Yep, that's where I want to be right now!"

Now, imagine if the travel agent who was advertising that holiday focused on the process instead of showing me the outcome. Instead of highlighting the beach, the fish, the amazing meals, and the beautiful room, they said, "Hey, do you want to take a holiday with us to Rarotonga? First, you'll need to pack your bags, then get all the kids in the car, drive to the airport, check-in, wait in line, wheel your suitcase around, kill time at the airport, get on the plane, and endure a long flight. Eventually, we'll get there and you'll be able to enjoy the holiday." Sounds exhausting, right?

Well, that's how some of you are marketing your music lessons. Instead of focusing on what inspires people and the destination they want to reach, you're getting caught up in the details - technique, rudiments, scales, and genres. But guess what? No one gives a crap about that! People want to learn to play their favorite songs, be the person who can play the guitar at a campfire, join a band, or simply rock out to their favorite tunes. That's the outcome they desire, and that's what you need to connect with.

Connecting with the Destination

So, how do you make this connection in your marketing? It starts with understanding your potential students' desires. When someone expresses interest in learning the piano, ask them why. Maybe they want to play in a band with their family. Awesome! Let them know you have a program specifically designed to help them play along with other musicians faster than traditional methods. Show them the outcome they want to achieve, not the nitty-gritty details of scales and notes. That's what will inspire them to take action and choose your music lessons over others.

Remember, this approach should be reflected in your ads, website copy, email interactions, and even phone conversations. Make sure every touchpoint with your potential students focuses on the destination and the outcome they desire. Don't overwhelm them with unnecessary details that won't excite them.
