Hi, I’m Jonny Wilson

I’m the founder of Build a Music School, and it wasn’t all that long ago that I was in the exact same spot you find yourself in right now.

My musical journey started with a music teacher that totally changed my life.

So much in fact, that after completing my music degree I decided that I wanted to build a music academy so I could also make a massive impact in young peoples lives through music.

In 2009 I launched Goodtime Music Academy. In less than 10 years, my tiny music school with just 30 students, scaled to over 7 figures, grew from 30 to 2,000+ students and a team of over 50 people.

Goodtime Music Academy became New Zealand's largest private music school.

But, it wasn’t easy.

Despite the excitement and adrenaline of doing my own thing, starting out was a nightmare.

Owning my own business looked good from the outside, but once I started, I had no idea how to make it work. I figured the only way was by working 24 hours a day.

I tried everything to get Goodtime Music Academy pumping. I spoke to other business owners, took courses, read books, listened to podcasts and made painful and costly mistakes as I figured things out on my own.

I had to learn the hard way, because there was no community and no resources available to me that were specific to my journey.

Why even bother to help other studio owners?

The success of Goodtime Music Academy quickly attracted a lot of attention from studio owners across the world; with many begging for mentoring, visits to my school, lunch dates and even requests for me to come visit and fix their struggling studios.

I was unable to meet everyones needs, but desperately wanted to help people get through the very problems I had faced years ago that had caused so much stress.

Unfortunately, I couldn’t find anything online to steer people to at the standard these people desperately required. So, I set out to build ‘Build a Music School’, which would generously provide every resource and teaching to fast track the success of studio owners of all sizes.

Since 2018 the #BAMSQUAD has helped hundreds of studio owners take back control of their lives and sky-rocket, profits and impact.

Some decisions are just lucky...

In 2019 I made the tough call to take another big step further in my career and I sold my Music School when it was at it's absolute peak.

I moved to the chairman of the board for my charitable foundation and also took some favourite staff with me to work full-time on Build a Music School.

Little did I know that 2 months later the world would be radically changed through the COVID-19 virus.

MY MISSION has always been to run a profitable business that also makes a positive difference in the community.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have my work recognised for my success in both of those areas:

▶︎   Winner of Young Business Person of the Year (2017)

▶︎  Winner of the Local Hero Medal in the New Zealander of the Year (2012)

▶︎  Winner of the regional Arts & Culture award for my city (2015)

►   You can achieve the same success that I did without all the costly mistakes.

►   The #BAMSQUAD is where I've distilled everything that I, myself, put to the test.

►   The hardest way to grow a successful music teaching business is to try to do it on your own.

►   Join the #BAMSQUAD and become part of a community that truly supports one another to find success and finally live the life you deserve.
