How to Turn Your Worst Month into Your Best Month in Your Music Teaching Business

Hey guys, in this video I want to talk to you about how to take the worst month in your music teaching business and turn it around to potentially become one of your best months. At Build A Music School, we recently had our best month ever, even though August has historically been our toughest month. I want to share with you the four main steps we took to achieve this, so you can do the same for your business.

Step 1: Identify Your Worst Month

The first step is to objectively identify which month is the worst for your business. Look at factors such as income, net profit, and cash flow forecasts. Consider any trailing effects that may occur due to billing cycles or seasonal trends. By understanding your worst month, you can strategize how to turn it around.

Step 2: Build Your Best Promotion

Once you've identified your worst month, it's time to build your best promotion. Get creative and think about...

Breaking Through Limiting Beliefs in Music Education

Hey there, music teachers and music school owners! Today, I want to share with you a conversation I had with a member of the Build A Music School community. We discussed something that I believe is extremely practical and important for all of us in the industry. So, let's dive right in!

This member, who is running an amazing music school on a tropical island, shared with me that he was following the traditional methods of teaching that had been passed down for generations. He believed that this was the only way to do things and that it couldn't be changed. This got me thinking about the limiting beliefs that we all have in our minds.

We all have these beliefs that hold us back from reaching our full potential in our businesses. Whether it's about the size of our school, the prices we charge, or the model we operate, these beliefs can be detrimental to our growth. I hear about these limiting beliefs every day from music teachers...

The Power of "So That" in Copywriting

Hey there! Today, I want to share with you a little copywriting tip that can completely transform the way you write for your website, ads, or social media posts. It's a simple technique using just two words: "so that". Let me explain how this powerful phrase can make a huge difference to your copy.

First, let me paint a picture for you. Many people come to our build a music school program with poorly designed websites and lackluster copy. They often list features like 30-minute lessons, video resources, and qualified teachers. While it's important to mention these details, they alone don't capture the attention of your audience.

That's where the magic of "so that" comes in. Instead of just stating the feature, you can take it to the next level by explaining the benefit. For example, let's say you offer a video library to support your lessons. Rather than just saying "video support material to have at home," you can say "we have a full video...

How to Get Music Programs into Local Schools

Hey there, music enthusiasts! In this video, I've got some crazy stuff to show you about how we got music programs into about 40 local schools. I've got some packs to show you and some links to some PDFs you can have. This is crazy because it was one of the big secrets that got us from zero to two thousand students. Over half of those students were taking lessons in school time. So why did we bother to do this? Let me explain.

Creating More Opportunities

Not everyone wants to give up every single evening for music lessons. Some people actually want to have some of that time during the day taken up with teaching and be able to offer people more hours. By teaching from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., we can provide longer shifts for our teachers and more work and money for both the teacher and the music school. So, we started thinking about how to get programs into schools.

The Benefits of School Programs

There are several benefits to getting music...

How to Lay Out a Music School

Hi there, music enthusiasts! Are you dreaming of building your own music school? Well, you've come to the right place. In this blog, I'm going to share with you some valuable insights on how to lay out a music school. I've gained this knowledge from my experience in growing multiple music schools in various locations. So, let's dive in!

Planning Your Music School

Before we get started, I want to clarify that the location we're looking at today is not a music school, but rather a guest house. Nonetheless, I'll share some key principles that apply to any music school layout.

Consider Parking and Accessibility

First and foremost, think about parking for your students' parents. Make sure there's ample space near the front entrance for them to park easily. Accessibility is crucial for a successful music school.

Create a Welcoming Waiting Room

A waiting room is an essential component of a music school. It provides a comfortable space for parents and...

Five Things That Will Change Your Life as a Music School Owner

Five Things That Will Change Your Life as a Music School Owner

When I think back to teaching on my own and owning a job rather than a business, I didn't have freedom. I was my own boss. That was one small form of freedom. But I didn't really have the freedom to do whatever I wanted at any time. And so the first thing is freedom. When you actually change to building a music school, if you get it all running successfully and a team around you doing a great job, you actually have the freedom to kind of do what you want. Now, because you love it, you choose to work in it and you choose to create new things and exciting things. But you finally have that freedom where if you wanna take a week off, you wanna take a couple weeks off, you wanna take a day off and who knows, go watch a movie by yourself in the middle of the day, that stuff's actually available to you if you are not bound by the schedule of I have to teach 30, 40, 100 students every week and I have to be here. It's almost like...
